How to Take Care of your Diamond Engagement Ring
You’ve been waiting for this special day for so long. Finally, one night after dinner in your favorite restaurant, he drops on one knee and asks you to marry him. You see a beautiful diamond ring which you know he took a lot of time to pick out for you. As you say yes, he slips it on your ‘ring finger’ as a sign of looking forward to spending the rest of your lives together. You now have something to wear that symbolizes his love for you.
Wearing a diamond engagement ring gives you pride and so this precious item should be given proper care. Although it is a hard gem, it is still prone to damage if you are not careful. Once you get home, make sure to remove your engagement ring. You don’t need it when you cook and wash the dishes. Don’t ever wear it when you are doing laundry. Soap is very slippery and can cause the ring to slip off your finger. It may even be removed by tangled clothes and fall in the washing machine.
You have to regularly clean your diamond ring using a small brush. No chemicals are necessary to clean it. Just add mild soap to a bowl of water before soaking your ring in it. After a few minutes, rinse it thoroughly under running water to make sure no soap suds have accumulated.
When you remove your engagement ring, always place it in its proper container. Don’t just mix it with the everyday jewelry that you have. This helps avoid losing it.
Bring the ring to a jeweler at least once a year for to check if there are any repairs needed. Bringing it to a jeweler also gives you assurance that the stone is still properly set in place.
